Mathematics Instructional Coach

Local 933, New Haven Federation of Teachers New Haven teachers are offered a variety of leadership development opportunities including but not limited to curriculum facilitator, teacher facilitator and the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute. Salary contingent on degree and years of experience: 26-27 School Year: $53,220 - $108,047
Reports To:
Supervisor of Mathematics
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Mathematics, the Math Coach ensures students receive high-quality mathematics instruction by providing teachers in a school building professional development through modeling lessons, observations and feedback sessions, data analysis, and more. The Math Coach serves as the mathematics content expert and provides support on curriculum, instruction, and assessment working closely with the administration in a school.
The Math Coach takes a hands-on approach to improving instruction and effectiveness by working at various levels (classroom, school, district-wide) to directly support instruction, intervention, and Mathematical Development for all students, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Facilitates professional development communities
- Meets regularly with administrators to discuss math practices, goals, and outcomes
- Oversees and supports ongoing math assessment across all math classrooms
- Collects data, analyzes, and keeps comprehensive records on student progress to facilitate progress monitoring
- Assesses and communicates classroom needs for instructional materials, and focused student support, to allocate resources and determine professional development and coaching needs
- Communicates with administrative team on school wide math progress
- Assists administrators, teachers, and appropriate staff in effectively implementing NHPS Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks
- Works cooperatively with teachers (inclusive of Special Education and Bilingual) to support mathematics development and curriculum implementation
- Develops and leads professional development (in various formats) to staff for improving math instruction utilizing current curricular resources
- Models exemplary lessons for teachers and provides assessment strategies for mathematics development
- Develops and supports math intervention plans for at-risk students in the SRBI/RTI process
- Teaches one intervention group daily
- Assists teachers in effectively using educational technology for mathematics instruction
- Provides professional development and classroom support on lesson design and best practices for mathematics
Works to stay current in best mathematics practices
Collaborates closely with other Math Coaches in school and district
Participates in all mathematics programs and curriculum development activities
Attends all required meetings and training
Completes all required paperwork on schedule
Performs other duties as required by the Supervisor
Family SupportConfers with parents, teachers, administrators, and other appropriate staff on all matters related to student achievement in mathematics
Assists parents in improving home-school connection in mathematics
Minimum QualificationsFive years of successful teaching experience. Knowledge of research-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Knowledge of Common Core and Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. Experience using instructional technology to support teaching and learning, curriculum development, staff training, and program and student accountability. Outstanding organizational skills and close attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change quickly, and meet deadlines.

Valid teaching certification
305 (PK-6 Elem) AND either 229 (4-8 Middle School Math) or 029 (4-12 High School Math)
Evaluation:
Evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Mathematics
