Environmental Services, Custodial; 2nd Shift

Job Summary

The Environmental Services Worker cleans patient rooms and general spaces throughout the health system facilities following safe work practices and infection control procedures. The role maintains designated areas in optimal cleaning standards according to established disinfection and sterilization guidelines.

Full time; evenings Monday‑Friday and rotating weekends 3:30PM – 12:00AM. May require moving heavy furnishings, trash, restroom and floor cleaning and maintenance in hospital common and patient room areas.

• Prioritize work efficiently and effectively.
• Read and understand oral instructions and safety signage.
• Meet physical requirements and working conditions.
• Provide customer‑service orientation.
• Use phone or paging system for cleaning assignments.

• Perform cleaning and sanitizing activities in patient rooms, bathrooms, and common spaces throughout the health system facilities.
• Maintain flooring care, including cleaning, buffing, and applying floor sealer and finish to hard surface floors; vacuum, shampoo, and extract carpets.
• Use and maintain power equipment and hand tools such as buffers, auto brooms, mops, and squeegees for floor, wall, carpet, and furniture care.
• Provide waste collection and removal, including biomedical waste, recycling, and cleaning trash chutes and receptacles.
• Mix and obtain cleaning solutions from dispensing systems; follow appropriate cleaning methods and use the correct solutions and equipment for different surfaces.
• Restock cleaning supplies and other items such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap.
• Carry out bed tracking tasks as needed.
• Report any maintenance or repair needs to management.

Use independent judgment to make minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies or protocols have been established.

Work directly with patients and/or customers; interact with internal or external customers via telephone or face‑to‑face interaction; collaborate with other healthcare professionals and staff.
