Job Description

Position:
Custodian at Raritan Valley Community College. Under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor and the Building & Grounds Manager, the Custodian will perform custodial services for campus buildings and grounds.

• General housekeeping of campus: sweeping, mopping, vacuum cleaning, dusting, light labor.
• Maintain restrooms: cleaning walls, sinks, fixtures, toilets, mirrors, replenishing towels, tissues, soap.
• Empty trash receptacles and perform recycling duties.
• Clean building entrances and interior/exterior areas.
• Assist in the setup of special events and college activities as directed by the Custodial Supervisor.
• Clear snow and ice from entrance ways, walkways, and steps; shovels or sweep; operate snow blowers.
• Operate cleaning machinery such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and carpet extractors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• 6 months to 1 year of previous custodial experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of safe use of chemicals and cleaning materials, following health and safety guidelines and PPE.
• Maintain all school standards of hygiene and safety.
• Flexibility of schedule; available to work any shift or day of the week.

• Sitting, standing, bending, walking, kneeling, and climbing.
• Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for a distance of 50 feet.
• Handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds while pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, and reaching.
