Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 35 years of custodial or facilities experience, with at least 12 years in a supervisory role, preferred
- Must possess Boiler Operator's License (Black Seal)
- Ability to manage multiple staff members and prioritize tasks effectively
- Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate custodial personnel
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies up to 75 lbs
- Physically able to climb steps and ladders and work from various heights
- Demonstrated knowledge of custodial procedures, cleaning equipment, and safety regulations (OSHA, Right-to-Know)
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Job Goal:
Under the direction of the Director of Physical Plant, the Supervisor
- Custodian Night Shift (Districtwide) will provide leadership, oversight, and direct support for second-shift operations throughout the district. The Supervisor will organize, supervise, and continuously improve operations to ensure that district facilities are clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained. This position will strengthen training, accountability, communication, and response time while supporting after-hours activities, events, and operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises district custodial personnel on the evening shift and provides appropriate written work assignments, direction, and follow-up.
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees all phases of custodial services for classrooms, offices, common areas, athletic facilities, auditoriums, and other district spaces during evening operations.
- Trains and mentors new custodial employees to ensure district cleaning standards, safety procedures, and operational expectations are consistently followed.
- Monitors custodial performance, conducts quality checks, and maintains weekly or daily records of completed tasks, building inspections, and quality control measures.
- Works in collaboration with the Supervisor
- Maintenance by overseeing evening inspections of school buildings and grounds to ensure compliance with district cleanliness and safety standards. - Responds to night-time staffing concerns, maintenance emergencies, and other operational disruptions as they arise, including responding to after-hours facility issues, staffing concerns, alarms, weather events, and building emergencies as needed.
- Provides support to buildings hosting evening activities, athletic events, community functions, and special programs to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and properly maintained.
- Recommends, records, issues, and oversees the proper use and care of custodial equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Assists in inventory control, supply management, and the evaluation of custodial equipment and products; delivers custodial supplies when needed.
- Instructs custodians in the proper performance of assigned tasks and the safe operation of equipment and cleaning materials.
- Maintains a constant vigilance of district buildings during evening hours and reports vandalism, repairs, hazardous conditions, and other significant concerns to the appropriate administrator.
- Instructs custodians in the proper manner of performance of the tasks assigned.
- Assists with the testing, training, and evaluation of custodial supplies and equipment when required.
- Oversees and assists with setup and breakdown for special events, graduations, and other district functions.
- Assists in recommending hiring, discipline, and other relevant personnel actions in accordance with district policy and bargaining unit requirements.
- Ensures that custodial personnel follow safety practices, equipment care procedures, and district expectations for cleanliness and security.
- Performs snow removal and ice control in the winter months to ensure school grounds, walkways, and entrances are safe and accessible for students, staff, and visitors.
- Works in collaboration with the Supervisor
- Maintenance by coordinating and assisting, if needed, with maintenance projects, repairs, facility setups, and emergency response activities during evening hours. - Monitors and oversees any contractors working in the district during the evening hours.
- During summer cleaning, provide support, as needed, and adjust schedule to accommodate these needs.
- Performs related duties as required and when instructed.
Terms of Employment: 12 Months Non-Tenure Track
Hours:
2:30 PM - 11:00 PM (Hours may vary depending on district need) Salary $59,172 $ 625 Black Seal License stipend when acquired $1,500 Building Automation stipend $600 Shift Differential
