Location: Mullica Hill
Custodian - Full Time (Black Seal required within one year of hire)
Qualifications- Successfully completes required criminal history, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License
- Valid Boiler Operators License (Black Seal) or obtain within 1 year of the date of hire.
Reports to: Manager of Buildings, Grounds, and Custodial Services.
Job ExpectationTo provide thorough and efficient care and maintenance services in an effort to maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable school environment at all times.
Performance Responsibilities Work Performance- Cleans floors of classrooms, offices, special rooms, corridors, stairs, entrances, lobbies, and cafeteria, as assigned.
- Removes debris on sidewalks leading to building or as assigned.
- Sweeps, dry mops, wet mops, vacuums, shampoos, strips, seals, and waxes floors, carpets and rugs as assigned.
- Cleans and disinfects daily the drinking fountains, bathrooms floors, bowls, seats, and urinals in restrooms as assigned.
- Fill paper and soap dispensers in assigned areas as needed.
- Opens classroom doors and entrance doors prior to the start of the school day or closes doors and windows and secures lights prior to leaving post daily in accordance with established schedule.
- Moves furniture and equipment within the building as directed by the principal or facilities manager.
- Stores supplies and delivers supplies to teachers as directed.
- Performs slight maintenance and painting tasks as needed and directed.
- Cleans glass of lobby and entrance doors as required.
- Wipes down and disinfects walls and light switches.
- Sets up, breaks down, and cleans cafeteria/all-purpose room as scheduled.
- Shovels, plows, rakes, and sweeps sidewalks, entrance ways, driveways, and parking areas as directed.
- Removal of garbage in all rooms; adheres to district recycling plans and procedures.
- Resigns on school premises during work hours unless otherwise authorized.
- Follows established procedures to ensure staff and student safety in the building (i.e. locks specified doors to limit building access once school is in session).
- Displays the U.S. flag during school hours on days when school is in session.
- Obeys fire and environmental laws and regulations to the plant operation.
- Removes trash and other materials from school grounds in accordance with established schedule.
- Performs any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment as deemed necessary by administration to meet the needs of the school.
- Displays ethical and professional behavior in working with everyone who communicates or is associated with the school community.
- Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, accepting responsibility, and an effective work ethic.
- Demonstrates an openness to discuss suggestions.
- Demonstrates initiative, independence, and decision‑making appropriate to the performance task of this position.
- Uses efficient time and resources available.
- Provides well‑organized, accurate work.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize task and to change priorities, as appropriate, to meet the needs of the job.
- Participates in staff development opportunities to enhance job‑related skills and knowledge.
- Demonstrates a willingness to assist and work cooperatively with colleagues.
- Displays tact and courtesy when dealing with students, staff, residents, and others in person and by telephone in the performance of this position.
The custodian shall be employed under the following terms:
- Salaries, benefits, leave time, and conditions specified in the negotiated agreement.
- Conditions established by laws and codes of the State, and policies, rules, and regulations established by the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. ‑4 et seq.).
- Medical physical must be submitted within 45 days of hire; subject to termination if this requirement is not met.
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Non‑Certified Personnel.
