Position: Building Custodian - 11 month

Position Title

Building Custodian (11 month position), starting immediately.

Principal(s)/Director of Organizational Planning and Facilities

Summary

To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

Qualifications
  • Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Present evidence of a physical exam to determine "fit for duty", evidence of being free from communicable disease (TB), and submit to a criminal background check.
Physical Demands
  • Heavy work:
    Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Open and prepare the building for the arrival of students and staff on a daily basis. Support the activities of the educational environment as directed by the Building Administrators.
  • Perform necessary duties to keep buildings and grounds clean and sanitized. Maintain outside planted areas. Take the lead for snow removal and ice prevention activities for all sidewalks and marked exits during periods of arrival and departure of students and staff.
  • Welcome parents and guests into the building and provide direction to them to areas of the building.
  • Receive and distribute consumable items throughout the building. Store back stock appropriately in designated areas.
  • Set-up and clean for lunch time, various meetings, functions and school activities. Coordinate the need for additional district equipment and personnel, with the Maintenance Department.
  • Report maintenance problems to the Building Administrators and Maintenance Department. Utilize District maintenance ticket system when appropriate.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks as necessary, such as changing light bulbs, repair minor plumbing, and report repairs to the Maintenance Department.
  • Set up equipment for special school events and clean up afterwards.
  • Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Principal or designee. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
