Maintenance – Full Time at Grand Street Settlement
Department: Youth Services
Location: Roosevelt Community Center – Brooklyn, NY
Reports to: Program Director/Assistant Director
Salary Range: $20 per hour
Date: December 2025 – School Year
Schedule: Summer Program
Hours:
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 11 pm;
Saturday – Sunday, 3 pm – 11 pm. School Year Program
Hours:
Monday – Friday, 2 pm – 10 pm;
Saturday, 10 am – 9 pm. Candidates are expected to work a 4‑8‑hr shift within program hours.
Maintenance worker conducts preventive and routine inspections, facilitates repairs, manages inventory and is responsible for the general upkeep of the facility.
Education, Experience, and Requirements- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 1 year of experience in facility maintenance
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certified preferred
- Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 20 to 40 pounds
- Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
- Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening, NYS Clearance Review Background Check, SEL, 3 Reference Checks, Physical with updated TB test
- Work collaboratively with co‑workers and cultivate a culture of professionalism and act as a role model for youth participants
- Come ready to work with a positive attitude
- Identify issues with equipment, machinery or building systems and determine the best course of action for repairs
- Perform a variety of repairs, including minor electrical, plumbing, building, furnitures and equipment, and other related work
- Maintain supplies, tools, and equipment needed for upkeep, repairs and maintenance
- Clean and maintain facilities, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, buffing floors and landscaping
- Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, floors and other surfaces
- Dust and polish furniture and metal work
- Clean outdoor grounds, lots and green spaces and ensure that the space is free of debris and hazardous items
- Gather and dispose of garbage and waste materials, including separating items for recycling, if applicable
- Adhere to safety procedures and follow safety rules and precautions when using cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Observe and report any needed repairs, safety hazards and/or other conditions requiring outside services from NYCHA, vendors or contractors
- Clean, organize and maintain workspace and shared spaces throughout the facility
- Coordinate community relations efforts and participate in outreach activities
- Assist in planning, organizing and executing community events
- Other assignments as required by the program director
