Bedford‑Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves the primary health care needs of families in North and Central Brooklyn. Its mission is to provide professional, courteous, high‑quality care to all, regardless of ability to pay.
We are seeking a Driver & Maintenance Worker who can transport passengers, handle mail and business pickups and deliveries, and carry out various maintenance duties.
Employees must be available to work a flexible schedule, including early/late shifts or Saturday/Sunday work as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain cleanliness of buildings, work sites and exteriors; perform trash and snow removal and basic plumbing, electrical and HVAC repairs.
- Handle painting, lock changing, sheet rocking, plastering, cabinet repair, tiling and other surface maintenance.
- Set up and prepare for events and meetings during and after regular business hours.
- Conduct minor construction and repair of structural work and perform regular inspections.
- Execute preventative maintenance on equipment: lubrication, filter cleaning, parts inspection/replacement.
- Carry out custodian duties as assigned and manage incoming deliveries.
- Investigate problems and implement solutions; assist with building‑wide projects.
- Ensure proper handling of infectious and non‑infectious waste; keep sidewalks, entrances free of ice, snow and debris; perform grass/scrub cutting.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Operate a vehicle safely in accordance with traffic laws and BSFHC driving policies.
- Transport passengers, mail and packages for business needs.
- Maintain the vehicle’s cleanliness, run checks and report maintenance issues.
- Conduct yourself courteously with patients, co‑workers and the public.
- Communicate with supervisors regarding pickup and delivery priorities.
- Pass yearly background and drug screenings; complete defensive driving courses every three years.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Three years of relevant work experience can replace education requirements.
- Valid NYS driver’s license with an excellent driving record; background check required.
- Driving record must support procurement of insurance coverage at reasonable rates.
- Basic computer skills: email, texting.
- Basic plumbing, electric, and carpentry skills (not requiring a licensed trade).
Compensation is $20.00 per hour, with comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, 401(k) retirement plan (discretionary match), free life insurance, long‑term disability, transportation plan, vacation and holiday pay.
