Overview
A family located in SoHo, Manhattan is looking for a part-time or full-time live-out experienced housekeeper. The family is not in residence for the majority of the year (perhaps a total of 3+ months a year for 1-2 weeks every month) but the housekeeper will remain working on-site regardless. The family consists of a private individual and is accompanied by his children and their nannies on occasion.
The standard schedule is Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. However, when the family is in residence the schedule will change to be 5 days of Monday through Sunday staggered between the 2 housekeepers to cover every day when the principal is residence; the schedule will then start at 6am/6:30am during weekdays and 7am on weekends. Flexibility is required, and a housekeeper is expected to be present daily when the principal is in residence (typically up to a few weeks at a time), when friends are staying there, and to cover working full-time when the main housekeeper is on annual leave.
The role will involve housekeeping and liaising closely with the principal’s London private office and main housekeeper to ensure everything is running smoothly in the residence. The team is very supportive and the candidate to hire will be joining a proactive, hardworking and lovely team. They are delighted to add someone for the long term.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Overall housekeeping of the home
- Deep cleaning when needed
- General tidying on a day-to-day basis
- Cleaning of all rooms–bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen
- Cleaning antiques and artwork
- Laundry and ironing
- Occasional errands
- Keeping track of household stock
- Contacting the property management if there are any repairs needed for the home as well as letting in vendors when needed
- Grocery shopping
- Cleaning the fresh produce
- Prepping fresh fruit and veggies
- Cooking healthy and simple meals when needed
The ideal candidate is:

- Must have a positive attitude
- Take direction easily, but can also take initiative and anticipate the principal’s needs and is knowledgeable about the functionality of the house
Candidates must have experience in:
- Cleaning antiques/art
- Table service
- Be computer and tech proficient
- Be able to keep organized records of household expenses
- Need to have a good attitude, to do what is needed to get the job done
- Being firm and good with contractors
- Report to the office in London for the weekly updates
- Confident and comfortable speaking with 3rd parties, with the principal directly, fluent and have good/clear English communication
- Must be active and fit; a more sedentary personality wouldn’t do well
- $45+/hour
- Overtime and extra effort are acknowledged and recognized
