Position Summary

The Senior Facilities Technician supports the day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, safety, and presentation of ICP's building at 79 Essex Street. This role serves as a key member of the Facilities team and performs a combination of preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, event support, vendor coordination, and operational oversight.

Working closely with the Director of Facilities and Facilities Operations Manager, the Senior Facilities Technician helps ensure museum, school, administrative, and public spaces remain safe, functional, and well‑maintained. This role is intended for an experienced facilities professional who can work independently, exercise sound judgment, and serve as a resource to other facilities staff while remaining actively involved in hands‑on building operations.

This role offers opportunities for growth and increased responsibility in facilities operations, building systems, compliance, and institutional support.

Key Responsibilities & Competencies Facilities Operations & Maintenance
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance throughout museum, classroom, office, and public spaces.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic to intermediate maintenance issues involving building systems, fixtures, equipment, and facilities infrastructure.
  • Complete facilities work orders and maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine inspections of public spaces, classrooms, offices, storage areas, and mechanical rooms.
  • Assist with monitoring HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records, and operational documentation.
  • Recommend repair, replacement, and maintenance priorities to Facilities leadership.
  • Support operational readiness throughout the facility.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support facility operations.
Vendor Coordination & Building Operations
  • Coordinate vendor access and assist with oversight of contractors performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Support preventative maintenance scheduling and follow‑up activities.
  • Maintain inventories of facilities supplies, tools, and operational materials.
  • Assist with tracking and ordering of janitorial and facility supplies.
  • Assist with tracking vendor services, maintenance schedules, and operational records.
  • Support implementation of operational improvements and efficiency.
Events & Institutional Support
  • Support museum events, educational programs, exhibition installations, and special events.
  • Coordinate event setup, breakdown, furniture movement, equipment placement, and related operational needs.
  • Provide evening and weekend operational support as required.
  • Collaborate with Visitor Experience, Security, Education, Development, and other departments to support institutional activities.
Safety & Compliance
  • Conduct inspections of fire extinguishers, first aid stations, AEDs, and other safety equipment.
  • Assist with fire drills, emergency preparedness activities, and safety initiatives.
  • Support maintenance of compliance records and operational documentation.
  • Promote safe work practices and identify potential safety concerns.
Requirements Specialized Knowledge, Licenses or Certifications required
  • Trade school certification, technical training, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness for S12, S13 and S95 required or ability to obtain within 90 days.
