Position SummaryWe have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Building Service Attendant, Cobble Hill. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for maintaining an approved level of cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the areas assigned within the Medical Center.
Job Responsibilities- Maintains established safety and infection control guidelines. Follows departmental safety guidelines when using equipment and moving furniture; utilizes proper body mechanics. Requests assistance when lifting or moving items too large or heavy. Wears gloves at all times and follows infection control procedures. Washes hands frequently and prevents cross contamination. Advises supervisor of any hazardous conditions in the area. Posts wet floor signs and takes other actions to prevent accidents caused by wet floors as designated by policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash collection, floor polishing, high dusting, spot washing, door cleaning, wall cleaning, bed making, toilets cleaning, furniture cleaning, trash disposal, blinds and shade cleaning, radiators, railings, stairways, lights, vents, doors, cubicle and shower curtain maintenance. Uses ladder for door frames and cleans picture frames. Cleans porter’s closets and equipment; replenishes cleaning supplies. Uses telephone and pager for Bed Tracking.
- Proficient in operating the Bed Tracking System and pager for receiving discharges to be cleaned and reporting completed discharges. Knowledgeable in Bed Tracking. Performs 7-Cleaning Steps for each patient room daily and provides discharge cleaning as required. Performs dusting, spot wall washing, damp wiping of environmental surfaces using bleach and/or hospital disinfectant cleaner. Sweeps and mops floors, disinfects bathrooms and restocks supplies.
Empties and relines trash containers. Removes finger marks from walls, doors and other surfaces. Performs high dusting as scheduled. Uses germicidal cleaner for disinfecting items in toilets. Awareness of hospital safety including RACE, PASS, chemical and trash safety, MSDS, HIPAA and infection control protocols. Cleans area soiled by blood or body fluids as needed. - Maintains adequate supplies throughout the workday. Manages tools and equipment needed to perform tasks. Performs thorough cleaning of assigned areas per work assignment and supervisor instructions. Empties and disposes of trash properly, cleans interior/exterior areas as needed, and replaces clean liners. Sweeps hard floors, moves items to remove lint/dirt, uses dust mops. Mops floors with appropriate germicidal/bleach solution and ensures floor is clean.
- Vacuums carpeted areas, removes spots, uses carpet spotter, and prepares floors for burnishing. Ensures a shine after buffing with burnisher. Cleans beds from discharges and places clean linen on beds. Sets up discharge rooms for admission per specifications.
Must be able to communicate and understand simple directions in English. Must be able to read MSDS and chemical labels.
Preferred QualificationsOne to two years of cleaning experience in a health care environment preferred but not required.
