Job Summary

The custodian will be responsible for the daily cleaning and safety conditions of all assigned facilities performing assigned tasks. This person is responsible for cleaning, performing ground‑keeping activities including snow removal, and performing routine maintenance activities painting, minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical repairs.

Job Duties
  • Supports and enhances a culture that respects and honors diversity, invests in professional development and encourages self‑care.
  • Arranges special set up for events as programs require.
  • Sweeps and mops floors.
  • Empties trash cans.
  • Thoroughly cleans and disinfects all surfaces to include laboratory equipment.
  • Uses cleaning solutions to remove stains and clean surfaces.
  • Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Restocks toiletries.
  • Applies wax to floors and buff.
  • Cleans and services restrooms with mops and disinfectants.
  • Moves and puts back furniture for scrubbing and waxing.
  • Identifies and reports possible repairs immediately upon discovery.
  • Shovels snow from sidewalks and sprinkle salt on surfaces.
  • Will be required to work during inclement weather.
  • Will be required to work extra hours and overtime as needed to prepare the building.
  • Will be required to attend staff meetings and complete any training as required.
  • Performs other duties as reasonably requested.
Qualifications & Experience

  • Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgement.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; and to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment: familiarity with the operation and maintenance of building systems and ability to perform various routine maintenance tasks.
  • Must be thorough, dependable, motivated self‑starter.
  • Ability to successfully maintain and pass DOE Clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The ability to sit, stand, walk and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear.
  • The ability to frequently sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to utilize office equipment such as desktop/notebook computers, copiers, printers, scanners, telephones, and calculators.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90‑day check‑ins during their 90‑day probationary period.
