Job Overview
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has an opening for full-time Facilities Manager working from the Lockport, NY office.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, manage, and coordinate the maintenance and appearance of the Association’s grounds and physical facilities to ensure safety for staff, volunteers, participants, and the public.
- Resolve facility and maintenance issues and problems; provide guidance to the Executive Director on the state of facilities and upkeep.
- Oversee construction and renovation projects, including scheduling of vendors and contractors.
- Set and manage daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedules for office areas, bathrooms, storage areas, grounds, and entrances.
- Prepare facilities for meetings, rentals, and events; oversee mowing, snow removal, repairs, minor carpentry, and construction projects.
- Maintain equipment and coordinate facility needs with the Executive Director or designated staff.
- Ensure OSHA and PESHA safety regulations are followed.
- Oversee facilities staff, including scheduling, assignment of duties, training, oversight/inspection of work, and assistance in annual reviews.
- Develop written plans and strategies to maintain records for facility, equipment, and grounds, including maintenance records, seasonal work plans, fire extinguisher and heating system annual maintenance, and winterization.
- Provide input to the Executive Director for the planning of the Association facility budget.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local vendors and contractors for facility needs.
- Create and maintain emergency preparedness plans and staff training.
- Manage all aspects of the cleaning, upkeep, maintenance, and repair of Extension’s buildings and grounds.
- Oversee construction and renovation projects, moves, building security, inventory control, and vendor scheduling.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director or designated staff to negotiate contracts with vendors and ensure risk management approvals.
- Oversee routine vehicle and equipment maintenance and inspections.
- Supervise by reviewing time cards, ordering supplies, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Coordinate logistics for special events, including setup, cleanup, and post‑event reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education. Associate’s degree plus 2 years transferable program/functional experience may substitute.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write) proficiently in English.
- Experience working with engineers, architects, carpenters, masons, plumbers, and electricians.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to staff.
- Ability to operate facility equipment such as tractor, skid‑steer, lawn mower, snow blower, etc.
- Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.
- Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work.
- Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings.
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and complete work within a reasonable time frame.
- Experience working in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.
- Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environmental and priorities.
- Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the workplace.
- Ability to work effectively with co‑workers.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff as pertains to the duties of the job.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.
- Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.
- Basic computer skills including use of e‑mail and computer‑based time collection.
- Physical ability to do heavy lifting (able to lift and carry 50 pounds), shovel snow, carry supplies and equipment.
