NYC Parks serves as the steward for over 30,000 acres of land, which includes 1,000 playgrounds, 36 recreation centers, 66 pools and 14 miles of beach. Our primary responsibility is to build and maintain clean, safe and accessible parks, and to create cultural and educational programs for New Yorkers of all ages to enjoy. The mission of Recreation is to enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active and intellectually stimulating lives through sports, fitness, outdoor adventure, technology, education, and the arts.
Recreation programs include specialized exercise classes, youth sports, senior activities, summer camps and free after school programs. Recreation programming occurs throughout the City in NYC Parks recreation centers, parks and playgrounds.
- Reporting to a Center Manager, assist in general maintenance work at a recreation center, including lawn mowing, edging, seeding, snow removal, cultivating, fertilizing, sod laying, hedge trimming, sweeping, raking of litter and emptying of receptacles.
- Clean and maintain facilities including public restrooms.
- Perform minor repair work including, but not limited to, plumbing, masonry, electrical, painting, carpentry, metal work and vehicle and equipment repair.
- Drive vehicles and operate other motorized equipment.
- Perform safety checks on facilities and equipment.
- May move furniture, climb and perform other physical activities as required in the performance of assigned duties.

- There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.
- A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required.
- Ability to read and to understand and obey orders is required.
- There are certain medical and physical requirements.
- Ability to drive to locations in all five boroughs.
- Ability to work flexible hours, nights and weekends as needed.
- Familiarity with Bronx neighborhoods.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hiring for all other candidates.
