Position Summary
The porter is responsible for ensuring that all areas of assigned building(s) are cleaned according to the provided schedule. The porter will also properly remove trash and recyclables on DSNY assigned days.
- General cleaning of common areas in assigned building.
- General cleaning of perimeter of assigned building.
- Removal of garbage and recyclables in compliance with DSNY rules and regulations.
- Cleaning of compactor and garbage chute rooms.
- Assist Senior Superintendent, Handyman and Porters as assigned.
- Coordinate access for outside contractors as assigned.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization.
- Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
- Focus on Client Needs: Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal and external clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
- Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Organization: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1+ year(s) of previous work experience as a porter
- Ability to read and follow instructions.
- Required Constantly: Walking, standing, climbing stairs, lifting of materials and tools (5-50 pounds).
- Required Frequently: Climbing ladders, operating machinery.
- Required Occasionally: Shoveling of snow, reaching above the shoulder, pushing and pulling.
$20.00 per hour
