Job Overview

Position: Education 4‑H Park Maintenance Worker (Part‑time, 20 hours per week, seasonal through October 31, 2026).
Location: 300 Finchville Turnpike, Otisville, NY.
Reporting to: Education Center & 4‑H Park Facilities Manager, Park Assistant, and Park Coordinator.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license with the ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Background check that meets acceptable standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including frequent lifting of 50+ pounds, bending, stretching, walking, and digging.
  • Hand‑eye coordination, manual dexterity, and normal eyesight and hearing needed for communication and equipment manipulation.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Team‑player working with volunteers and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minor mechanical and maintenance repairs experience.
  • Knowledge of operating park maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to relate to diverse audiences.
  • Effective oral, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Light plumbing and electrical skills.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Construction & Improvement: Support construction and improvement projects under the Facilities Manager’s direction – dig/fill holes, lay piping, install fixtures, and move materials.
  • Grounds & Facilities Maintenance: Keep grounds, buildings, and facilities clean, safe, attractive, and orderly; perform routine cleaning of barns, bathrooms, common spaces.
  • Sanitation: Collect and dispose of trash and litter, empty and clean garbage receptacles, monitor grounds for loose debris; replenish paper goods and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Minor Repairs: Assist with painting, basic carpentry, changing light bulbs, minor fixture installation, and upkeep of water systems/foundations.
  • Landscaping: Mow lawns, weed‑whack, trim bushes, clear trees, weed gardens, rake leaves/soil, plant, and remove snow; safely operate mowers, tractors, weed whackers, and leaf blowers.
  • Event Support: Assist with program operations—set‑up, breakdown, and moving furniture and equipment; support fair preparation and cleanup (weekend in July and surrounding week). Ensure tools are maintained and in proper working condition.
  • Professional Development: Collaborate with Supervisor and/or Executive Director to develop and pursue a professional development plan.
  • Administrative Support: Attend staff meetings, report expenses, assist marketing of Extension programs, and perform other duties as assigned.
Health & Safety

Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, Association health & safety policies, and chemical equipment labeling. Proactively prevent accidents and report hazards.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $20.90 per hour. Portion of benefits (subject to eligibility) includes:
