Salary Range: $18.00 To $20.00 Hourly
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Seasonal Park Facilities Worker is responsible for providing daily hands‑on physical labor required to keep all parks, open spaces, and public amenities, including public dog runs, restrooms, hard surfaces, waste management and community spaces under the jurisdiction of Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) in a clean, safe, and operable condition. The Seasonal Park Facilities Worker should be aware of sustainable practices and take proactive steps towards applying these principles in their daily work.
As with all positions at BPCA, the Seasonal Park Facilities Worker will continually exemplify and promote the core values, mission, and culture of the organization.
- Assist in the daily waste management throughout BPC, which includes collecting waste streams and litter in indoor and outdoor spaces, operating compactors, and following policies and procedures for BPCA’s zero waste initiatives.
- Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of the open spaces and public amenities, such as removing graffiti and stickers, power washing paths, and hardscapes, and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.
- Assist in the daily grooming and resetting of the playgrounds, dog runs, and public restrooms which includes, litter removal, restocking supplies.
- Assist in permitted and programmed events as assigned in managing waste, setting up, breaking down, and general oversight and clean up.
- Safely and effectively operate and maintain hand tools such as weeding knives, brooms, mops, dust pans, vacuums, and rakes.
- Safely and effectively operate powered vehicles and equipment such as electric trucks, leaf blowers, and power washers.
- Assist in programmed and permitted events as assigned to set-up, clean-up, and/or manage waste.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Technicians and other staff to complete assigned tasks.
- Use personal protective equipment as appropriate and maintain a high standard for workplace safety.
- Maintain professionalism at all times, including when interacting with the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Previous maintenance or porter experience
- Possess a valid U.S Driver’s License preferred
- Certifications and/or trainings relevant to the maintenance of parks and/or open spaces preferred
- Experience working in public park settings preferred
- One or more years of maintenance and/or porter experience preferred
Skills:
- Ability to work in a team but also be self‑motivated when working independently
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather
- Stand for long periods of time
- Perform repetitive movements
- Push, pull, and lift 50 lbs.
- Must have the physical ability and desire to work in public spaces
