Job Summary

The role of the Janitorial Supervisor is to assist in the management and supervision of the daily operations of the custodial staff and to perform the duties of custodians in their absence. The position involves significant interaction with people, requiring public and human relations skills, flexibility, and effective oral and written communication. It also requires independent judgment to handle unexpected problems.

Functions
  • Supervise employees and delegate the operations schedule to ensure proper work‑area coverage.
  • Evaluate performance and inspect assigned areas to maintain proper work standards.
  • Provide hands‑on support for tasks such as dust mopping, sweeping, strip/finishing, carpet scrubbing, servicing restrooms, window washing, and other custodial duties.
  • Identify problems, resolve issues, and make recommendations for continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure employees comply with clock‑in/out procedures, manage time‑keeping, correct poor habits, and take disciplinary action as needed.
  • Monitor Kronos reports to ensure compliance with clocking standards and prevent overtime.
  • Report any issues, concerns or discrepancies to the Operations Manager or Coordinator.
  • Address customer concerns and inquiries; report changes to job/work orders.
  • Track and evaluate purchasing activities, supply usage, and equipment repairs.
  • Ensure chemical labeling, dilution, and storage meet company, customer, and OSHA standards.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training for staff on specific tasks.
  • Participate in company and customer training; distribute information to managers, supervisors, customers, and employees.
  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies, customer rules, and applicable laws.
  • Assist with administrative tasks for custodial personnel and facilities as directed.
  • Assist with scheduling of custodial personnel as needed.
  • Coordinate, assign, and inspect the work of assigned custodial staff, reviewing and revising task assignment sheets.
  • Provide guidance and training as needed.
  • Submit end‑of‑shift reports to the Operations Manager.
  • Coordinate regular and substitute custodial staff coverage.
  • Develop and implement custodial cleaning procedures, routines, and training.
  • Assess efficiency of cleaning procedures and institute new or revised procedures to improve effectiveness, safety, and customer service.
  • Maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by the Operations Manager.
  • Arrange and coordinate equipment repairs as necessary.
  • Resolve guest complaints while keeping management informed and attending staff meetings to discuss complaints.
  • Screen job applicants, screen new hires, recommend promotions, transfers, and dismissals in collaboration with the GM.
  • Perform routine safety checks and preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Complete weekly and monthly safety training for all employees and verify completion.
  • Ensure all employees have appropriate PPE and use it correctly.
  • Supervise inventory of custodial supply products and notify the Operations Manager of needed supplies.
  • Perform the duties of custodians in their absence.
  • Represent Flagship and client staff in interactions with clients, facility guests, passengers, and employees.
  • Respond to emergency calls for fire, security, and vandalism at all facilities.
  • Model and enforce Flagship policies, regulations, and protocols.
  • Attend work regularly and perform overtime as workload requires.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in maintenance work.
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and work individually and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar).
  • Floor and carpet care experience.

Education and Work Experience

High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred. 4+ years of janitorial supervisory experience; multi‑building experience.
