Environmental Service Worker IV

Position Summary

Environmental Worker IV – Full Time, Days – ASC Suffolk – Building Services. Responsible for supporting patient care through environmental cleaning and maintenance across the hospital and outpatient sites.

• Preparation and Planning
  • Prioritize work assignments.
  • Communicate with ES Manager/Supervisor about agenda, progress, and incomplete tasks.
• General Floor Maintenance
  • Clean assigned areas with dry and damp mop, operate floor buffing and scrubbers.
  • Maintain floors free of debris, keep corners and baseboards clean, and handle blood/body fluids.
• Equipment and Supplies
  • Obtain, store, and properly maintain equipment and chemicals.
  • Use heavy‑lift equipment safely and report repairs.
• Floor Refinishing
  • Use chemicals and procedures for floor refinishing, including wet floor signage.
• Carpet Care / Curtain Care
  • Clean carpets, inspect, and wash curtains per supervisor instructions.
  • Operate washer/dryer safely and coordinate with nursing staff.
• Projects
  • Move and set up offices and conference rooms, assist with office relocations.
  • Adapt shift schedules as needed and cross‑train on other ESW functions.
• Trash Removal
  • Empty trash cans, clean receptacles, and manage waste safely.
  • Separate recyclable materials and maintain safety around carts.
• Customer Service
  • Apply AIDET with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Promote hospital service standards and positive patient experience.
  • Follow 7‑step room cleaning procedures and meet productivity targets.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 months of experience in cleaning procedures and power equipment use.
• Ongoing education through seminars, workshops, and departmental meetings.
• Good interpersonal skills with staff, administrators, patients, and visitors.
