Location: Waterport
Park Worker 3
The Park Worker 3 will report directly to the Park Manager 1, SG-18, and will be assigned to Lakeside State Park. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment and vehicles, including trucks, loaders, tractors, trailers, and power tools.
- Supervise, train, evaluate, and provide direction to lower-level staff.
- Oversee and enforce applicable safety regulations and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate work assignments with regional supervisors and park managers.
- Assist with landscaping tasks, including planting, pruning, mowing, and general groundskeeping.
- Assist with manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Inspect and maintain areas to ensure they are clean and safe for public use, including trash collection, restroom maintenance, and minor repairs. Report any issues or concerns to supervisory staff.
- Provide excellent customer service to park visitors, answering questions, providing information, and ensuring a positive experience.
- Participate in the setup and breakdown of park events and activities.
- Perform snow and ice removal during the winter months.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment used, and materials consumed.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform general day-to-day administrative duties and answering park-related questions.
- Assist with the scheduling, training, and evaluation of seasonal park staff.
- Use of computer and desktop applications to process day-to-day operations.
- Assist when needed with general maintenance and upkeep of Lakeside State Park.
- Report and file operational reports, maintain park records and documents.
- Assist with the scheduling, set up and tear down of park events and activities.
- Oversee day-to-day camp office and recreation hall operations.
- Transport and deliver mail, bank deposits, supplies and other materials.
- Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility; OR
- One year of experience in any of the following fields:
- Law enforcement or security
- Firefighting
- Emergency Medical Services
- Environmental education or stewardship
- Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
- Historic preservation or interpretation
- Landscaping or grounds maintenance
- OR
- One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces; - OR
- Thirty (30) semester credit hours
* of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university; - OR
- Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program; - OR
- Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson. - * Your credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Operating Needs:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
- Must have a working knowledge of the safe operation of hand and stationary shop tools.
- Must have the ability to operate a variety of driven machinery.
- Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
