Cleaner - Environmental Specialist

Why Rensselaer? On a beautiful 275-acre campus in upstate NY, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is home to five schools, 32 research centers, three makerspaces, an observatory, one of the world’s fastest supercomputers, and the IBM Quantum System One - the first university-based quantum computer in the world.

The Environmental Specialist will maintain Institute standards of cleanliness in assigned areas to include but not limited to residence halls, apartments, academic buildings, classrooms, athletic/recreational facilities, offices, and service areas.

• Demonstrated stable work history

• High School/Equivalent, prior commercial cleaning experience

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Ability to comply with standing instructions provided by operating manuals, material safety data sheets, safety rules and regulations for personal protection and safety regarding equipment and chemical usage.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and sanitizing dispensing units.
• Must have the ability to work flexible hours which may include, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Basic knowledge of computers

• Commercial Cleaning experience

Environmental Services:

Starting time is 6:00am and ending time is 2:30pm

No travel

No driving:
Must have reliable transportation

Must be able to reliably report to the assigned work location for all scheduled shifts and maintain regular attendance, including during periods of inclement weather, subject to Institute operating schedules and emergency closure policies.

Expected hiring range
: $16.00 + An additional $0.20 per hour will be paid for each year of documented and related experience as approved by the hiring team, up to $17.00 per hour

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
