Cedar Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is seeking an experienced Director of Environmental Services to oversee our Environmental Services operations, including maintenance, housekeeping, laundry/linen services, grounds, and contracted services.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, functional, sanitary, and comfortable environment for our residents, staff, and visitors. The Director of Environmental Services reports directly to the Administrator and plays an integral role in facility operations, regulatory compliance, life safety, infection prevention, and survey readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise the Environmental Services Department, including maintenance, housekeeping, and in-house laundry/linen operations.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and support Environmental Services staff.
  • Maintain the building, grounds, utilities, furnishings, resident-care equipment, and related systems in safe and proper operating condition.
  • Oversee boiler operations and ensure required inspections, maintenance, documentation, and service are completed.
  • Maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, ventilation, heating, air-conditioning, and other essential building systems.
  • Develop and maintain an effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Oversee fire safety, emergency preparedness, and applicable Life Safety Code requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing readiness for New York State Department of Health surveys and other regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable NYS Department of Health, CMS, OSHA, federal, state, and Life Safety requirements.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including obtaining proposals, coordinating services, monitoring performance, and managing costs.
  • Coordinate and oversee capital projects and facility repairs.
  • Manage pest-control programs and exterior/grounds maintenance, including contracted services as applicable.
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory, and distribution of supplies for designated departments.
  • Ensure housekeeping, laundry/linen, waste management, and Environmental Services practices comply with facility infection-prevention policies.
  • Ensure proper collection, storage, and disposal of garbage, refuse, biological waste, and infectious materials.
  • Participate in and provide required reporting for the facility's QAPI/Quality Assurance program, including audits, data collection, corrective-action plans, and follow-up.
  • Maintain required departmental records, inspection logs, work orders, preventive-maintenance documentation, vendor records, and regulatory documentation.
  • Utilize facility computer systems for email, documentation, work orders, purchasing, reporting, scheduling, and other departmental functions.
  • Assist staff directly when necessary to ensure timely completion of departmental responsibilities.
  • Participate as a member of the facility's interdisciplinary leadership team.
  • Provide appropriate on-call availability and respond to urgent facility needs.
Qualifications
  • Seven years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in maintenance and/or Environmental Services, including experience motivating, training, evaluating, and directing staff.
  • Previous long-term care/skilled nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the New York State Department of Health survey process.
  • Working knowledge of facility operations, maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry services.
  • Knowledge of NYS Department of Health regulations, CMS requirements, OSHA requirements, Life Safety Code, and other applicable healthcare regulations.
