The Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds (HKC) is looking for an experienced, energetic, hands-on maintenance and mechanical professional with strong leadership and organizational skills to join our team as an Assistant Property Manager at HKC Staten Island

ABOUT THE HENRY KAUFMANN CAMPGROUNDS

HKC Staten Island is a 75-acre property that is home to three children's day camps. HKC is a mission-driven nonprofit organization serving the Jewish day camp community at three locations.

As a seasonal organization, HKC employs approximately 90 staff members who provide maintenance and janitorial services, aquatics supervision and security. Together, we work to provide a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for the camps and children who call HKC home.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE ASSISTANT PROPERTY MANAGER

The Assistant Property Manager works closely with the Property Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance and upkeep of the HKC property
. This includes overall management of the property including the repair of buildings, grounds, pools, vehicles and equipment. The Assistant Manager will also assist with landscaping and field management.

This position has an important leadership component. You'll help manage, train, mentor and support maintenance staff
, assign work, monitor progress and help ensure that projects and daily tasks are completed safely and to HKC's standards. The Assistant Manager will also help coordinate schedule and prioritize work based on camp and property needs, managing work orders and tracking completed work.

THIS IS A HANDS-ON LEADERSHIP POSITION

You won't be spending your days behind a desk. A major focus of this position is preventative maintenance and mechanical repair
, for landscaping equipment, small engines and vehicles such as ATVs, UTVs, golf carts and trucks. You may also be mowing a field, painting, or addressing a minor plumbing or electrical issue.

The successful candidate will be comfortable leading from the front
-providing direction to the team while also being willing to grab a tool and work alongside them.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have a positive, proactive attitude and be eager to learn.

  • At least 3 years' experience in facility and preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • At least 3 years' experience with equipment and/or vehicle mechanics and repair.
  • Experience working with or leading a maintenance, landscaping or facilities team
  • Comfort working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry is a plus
  • Strong organization, communication and computer skills
  • A valid driver's license

CERTIFICATIONS
  • Within six months of hire, candidates who do not already hold these certifications will be expected to obtain: (HKC will cover the cost of these certifications)
  • CPO (Certified Pool Operator)
  • OSHA Certification
  • First Aid Certification
