Field Installation Technician; Upper West Side

On an install you are the one person from the company the customer meets. You mount a radio on the roof of a prewar walk-up, find a path down to the apartment that nobody ever designed for cable, terminate it, test it, and leave the building the way you found it. Every building is a one-off. There is no truck route of identical drops here, the roof rarely gives you the easy answer, and the work is outdoors and at height, year round.

• Mount and align rooftop radios and antennas on walk-ups, brownstones, townhouses, and small apartment and mixed-use buildings between W 57th and W 110th Street. The link does not exist until you aim it and the numbers hold.
• Pick the cable route through a building that was never wired for one — risers, shafts, hallways, stairs — and then run it.
• Terminate and dress the cable, and set up the router inside the apartment.
• Test the line end to end and confirm the customer is online before you pack up.
• Show the customer how the service works, in plain language, and answer what they ask before you leave.
• Go back for repairs, replacements, and follow-up visits, including on installs you did not do.

• Work at height on ladders and rooftops, outdoors, in every season.
• Carry radios, tools, and cable up stairs in buildings with no elevator and through tight spaces.
• Terminate cable accurately and use hand and power tools without leaving marks on someone's building.
• Read the signal numbers, find the fault in a link that will not come up, and fix it before you leave.
• Decide a cable route in a building you have never been inside, and explain the choice to building staff.
• Speak plainly with residents, and treat an occupied apartment like someone's home.

• The customer is online when you leave, because you tested it, not because it looked right.
• The cable is dressed, the roof and the hallway look the way they did when you arrived, and building staff let you back in.
• You do not create a second visit. When a callback does come, you can tell from the symptom where to look.
• You can walk down the block, point at a radio you put up, and know which apartment it feeds.

Full-time or part-time, weekdays, with some Saturday appointments. Installs run during daytime and early evening hours, and overtime is paid after 40 hours in a week.
