Job Description Summary
Tech 3– Roles & Responsibilities (Leadership‑Driven, Conveyor Maintenance – Fresh Direct)1. Mechanical Expertise & System Reliability
Serve as the primary mechanical authority on Spirals, Sorters, MDRs, belts, merges, diverts, and accumulation zones. Lead root‑cause investigations to eliminate repeat failures and improve long‑term system reliability. Identify mechanical vulnerabilities across the site and proactively recommend improvements. Drive rapid recovery during breakdowns by coordinating tasks, guiding other techs, and restoring flow efficiently. Execute complex mechanical repairs with precision, ensuring equipment returns to optimal performance.
2.Preventive Maintenance Leadership & Standards Enforcement
Set the standard for PM quality, ensuring all tasks are completed with zero missed items. Analyze PM data to identify patterns, emerging risks, and areas needing redesign or adjustment. Champion PM accuracy (95%+) and hold the team accountable to the same standard. Develop and refine PM procedures to improve clarity, efficiency, and effectiveness. Train other Techs on equipment behavior, wear indicators, and proper PM execution.
3.Site Improvement & Continuous Optimization
Actively seek out inefficiencies, recurring jams, and mechanical weak points across the conveyor system, Sorters, Spirals. Lead small improvement projects focused on uptime, jam reduction, and equipment reliability. Collaborate with operations to identify workflow issues and propose mechanical solutions. Recommend parts, design changes, or process adjustments that enhance system performance. Track recurring issues and drive long‑term corrective actions, not just short‑term fixes.
4.Communication, Coordination & Technical Leadership
Provide clear, actionable communication to operations, maintenance leadership, and controls teams. Deliver high‑quality work orders, shift handoff notes, and CMMS entries that support decision‑making. Reduce unnecessary escalations by accurately diagnosing mechanical vs. controls symptoms. Coordinate with operations during breakdowns to manage expectations and maintain safe workflow. Serve as the go‑to resource for technical questions from junior technicians.
5. Safety Leadership & Culture BuildingModel uncompromising adherence to LOTO and all safety protocols. Intervene immediately when unsafe behavior is observed and coach others toward safer habits. Lead or support toolbox talks, safety walks, and hazard‑spotting initiatives. Promote a culture where safety is prioritized over speed or convenience.
6. Ownership, Autonomy & Shift LeadershipTake full ownership of shift performance, ensuring uptime meets or exceeds site targets. Prioritize tasks effectively during high‑volume periods or multiple simultaneous breakdowns. Guide other Techs through troubleshooting steps, PM tasks, and repair strategies. Maintain a calm, solution‑focused presence during high‑pressure situations. Demonstrate readiness to step into lead‑level responsibilities when required.
7. Professionalism & Team InfluenceBuild strong working relationships with operations, controls, and leadership teams. Set the tone for professionalism, reliability, and accountability within the maintenance team. Encourage a positive, collaborative environment where technicians feel supported and challenged. Show initiative in addressing site‑wide issues, not just assigned tasks. Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and follow‑through.
