Christiana Care is looking for a full-time Maintenance Mechanic III in Newark, Delaware to provide a safe, compliant and continuous operation of healthcare facilities physical infrastructure and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains and repairs minor portable patient equipment (wheelchairs, IV poles, stretchers, beds)
  • Minor HVAC/Plumbing repairs
  • Minor electrical repairs
  • Pneumatic tube oversight
  • Building maintenance tasks (hanging pictures, repairing/replacing ceiling tiles, floor tiles, cove base, light bulbs, repairing cabinetry, mounting signs)
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and takes readings on various building systems
  • Responds to emergency situations such as power failures, fire alarms, elevator entrapments, and water events
  • Audits contractors and permits (including Above Ceiling Inspections, ICRA/PCRA inspections)
  • Reviews, audits, and installs fire stopping systems
  • Responds to calls promptly and triages work to tradespersons as needed
  • Utilizes CMMS system for documenting, managing, and communicating all maintenance activities (corrective, preventive, and emergency work)
  • Performs light welding and metal work as necessary
  • Maintains clean and safe work areas at all times
  • Follows all applicable safety procedures in the performance of job responsibilities
  • Reports to supervisor any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury
  • Performs other related duties as required
Hours

Rotating Shifts & On Call Rotation

Education and Experience
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Five years practical mechanical experience
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
  • Knowledge of CCHS policies and procedures
  • Prioritize workload and solve problems independently
  • Knowledge of procedures prescribed by shop and vendor manuals
  • Skill in solving mechanical and analytical problems
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in operating all types of hand and power tools and electrical test equipment (screwdrivers, pliers, pipe wrenches, drills, saws, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems
  • Must be able to hear and orally communicate on the telephone and two-way radio system
Physical Demands

Walking, lifting, bending/stooping, reaching, and climbing.

Working Conditions

Exposure to oils, grease, chemical fumes, dust, heat and noise.

Compensation

This position has a starting rate of $30.32 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $33.79 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $37.26.
