Introduction
The DNREC Division of Air Quality monitors and regulates emissions to the air. Air monitoring is supported by the Ambient Air Monitoring Program which operates a network of monitoring stations throughout the State. This monitoring network measures pollutants for which national air quality standards have been defined to protect public health, welfare, and the environment. The Ambient Air Monitoring Program is supported by Air Monitoring Quality Assurance Program, which ensures the quality of data produced.

Summary StatementThis Instrument Technician is a mid-level position in the Ambient Air Monitoring program with the Division of Air Quality. The Instrument Technician performs and assists with the maintenance of DNREC's statewide ambient air monitoring network which involves: determining the causes of malfunctions in measuring, analyzing or processing instrumentation of analog or digital design; repairing and replacing defective circuit boards and modules;
replacing defective integrated circuit chips and electronic elements; repairing and performing preventive maintenance on electro-mechanical systems; calibrating instrumentation and test equipment; coordinating with manufacturers for RMA repairs; requisitioning parts and supplies; keeping records of work performed and parts used.
Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.
- Determines the causes of malfunctions in measuring, analyzing or processing instrumentation of analog or digital design.
- Repairs or replaces defective circuit boards and modules.
- Replaces defective integrated circuit chips and electronic elements.
- Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on electro-mechanical systems.
- Calibrates instrumentation and test equipment.
- Modifies instrumentation as required.

- Keeps records of work performed and parts used.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Instrument Technician
- Six months experience in troubleshooting electronic instrumentation.
- Six months experience in interpreting circuit diagrams and schematics.
- Six months experience in using electronic test equipment and hand tools.
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic safety.
- Knowledge of microprocessor which includes controlled instruments.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
