PT Building and Maintenance Custodian

E. Heggan Free Public Library in Sewell, NJ seeks applicants for a PT Building and Maintenance Custodian. The library is an independent municipal library in southern NJ, serving the residents of Washington Township in Gloucester County, NJ since 1966. Washington Township is the largest municipality in size and population in the county. The library is a 20,000 square foot building that is open seven days per week.

Duties include performing all general, routine cleaning tasks necessary for the day-to-day maintenance of the building, keeping the building and grounds clean and in an orderly condition, and completing specialized cleaning projects as needed. Responsibilities include dusting throughout the building; buffing, mopping, scrubbing, steam cleaning, stripping, vacuuming, and waxing carpets or floors; gathering and emptying trash and recyclables; cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms;

ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations; cleaning all glass surfaces; and performing all other duties as assigned.

The person in this position must be able to assemble and operate cleaning tools; use and store cleaning products properly; perform basic repairs; complete tasks with little supervision; follow verbal and written instructions; and have excellent attention to detail. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalency. One year of successful experience in janitorial work is preferred.

The schedule for this position includes mornings and some weekends for a range of 16-20 hours per week. The flexibility to be on call for emergencies is necessary. The hourly range is $17.21 - $28.21 per hour and is commensurate with experience. Per the NJ First Act, residency in New Jersey is required within one year from date of hire. Paid time off includes accrued sick time based on the requirements of the New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Law.

This position requires participation in the Defined Contribution Retirement Program pension system. The calculation is 5.5% of the base salary with a 3% employer match. The pension system includes a life insurance policy. All library staff are provided with paid memberships in the NJ Library Association.
