Responsibilities- Perform routine housekeeping activities to maintain a clean, safe, habitable environment according to departmental standards. Clean patient rooms after discharge.
- Picks up and discards trash and soiled linens; damp‑wipes waste baskets and linen hampers; performs high dusting of vents, bed lights, televisions, high ledges, and other high areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms with appropriate chemicals and equipment; restocks toilet tissue, paper towels, soap; replaces shower curtains when needed; spot‑cleans soiled areas; places sanitary strips across toilet seat.
- Damp‑wipes telephones, on‑call button cords, bedside tables, over‑bed tables, chairs, bed rails, head and foot boards, and other furniture daily; wipes doorknobs, light switches, window sills, pictures, and other horizontal surfaces; spot‑cleans walls as needed; may clean windows.
- Strips, damp‑wipes, and remakes beds upon patient discharge; may cycle‑clean rooms including ceiling, walls, bathroom tiles as assigned by supervisor; may use mess kits for hazardous spills.
- Dry‑mops patient room floor (including bathroom floor), prepares cleaning solution with hospital approved disinfectant; wet‑mops daily.
- In administrative offices and nursing stations, damp‑wipes office furniture, computer terminals, telephones, file cabinets; dry‑mops floors and/or vacuums carpets daily.
- Moves furniture to dust and clean floors and carpets; may strip and refinish floors periodically; may buff and shine floors daily; shampoos and spot‑cleans carpets as assigned; sweeps, wet‑mops, dry‑mops, and buffs floors in hallways and stairways as assigned.
- Organizes supplies in housekeeping closets daily; damp‑wipes walls periodically; wet‑mops floors daily; scrubs sink daily.
- In cooperation with group leaders and supervisors, ensures equipment and supplies are always available and in proper working condition; uses equipment per manufacturer guidelines; picks up E.S.D. cart at start of shift; rescues supplies on cart daily; replaces vacuum bags and filters as needed; returns soiled mops to supply room for cleaning.
- Demonstrates proper work, personal, and safety habits; uses PPE; changes gloves appropriately; washes hands after each use; recognizes hazardous situations and responds appropriately; cleans and restocks carts for the next shift; takes responsibility for cleaning and organizing housekeeping closets.
- Is courteous and helpful to patients, visitors, and other personnel; greets patients upon entering rooms; acts as customer‑service agent; recognizes when patient needs clinical assistance and calls for a direct health‑care worker; leaves behind “Welcome to Newton‑Wellesley Hospital” cards after cleaning each room.
- May be required to assist in moving and discarding heavy office furniture.
- High school diploma preferred or equivalent experience.
- Physical strength and stamina sufficient to perform job duties.
- On‑the‑job training provided.
- Ability to communicate verbally and be understood.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to get along with others and confront issues appropriately.
Hourly rate: $17.71 – $21.51
