WE ARE HIRING! Join our team and become our new civilian part-time Desk Community Service Officer, a non-sworn civilian position responsible for staffing the Police Department's front desk, assisting the public, processing reports, and providing general administrative support to on-duty personnel.

Some info about the position...
  • Greets the public at the front desk, provides general information, and assists with a wide variety of resident inquiries and requests.
  • Accepts a variety of non-investigative reports, including traffic accidents and property-related incidents, and completes associated documentation accurately and on time.
  • Operates the non-emergency switchboard, relays pertinent information to the dispatch center, and records requests for police service.
  • Conducts prisoner checks at timed intervals and performs clerk-related functions for the Circuit Court of Cook County, including validating citations and issuing bonds.
  • Processes payments for citations and administrative towing fees, handles found property, and supports other administrative functions as assigned.
Qualified candidates should...
  • Meet the minimum age requirement of 17 years old, possess a valid Illinois Driver's License, and be able to pass a pre-employment criminal records check.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in customer service, civilian law enforcement, or a public sector role is preferred.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the public, coworkers, and other agencies, and handle stressful or sensitive situations with tact, discretion, and integrity.
  • Show proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with law enforcement records management systems such as LEADS or CAD is preferred.
  • Be physically able to sit or stand for extended periods and lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as department scheduling requires.
Pay, benefits, and more...
  • $18.55 - $24.11 per hour, depending on qualifications.
  • Shifts are 4-5 hours, averaging no less than 20 and no more than 76 hours per month, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on department needs.
