Niles School District 71 is looking for a thoughtful and caring Special Education Teacher (LBS1) to join our team at Culver School. We are a diverse, one-school district serving preschool through 8th grade just outside Chicago. Because we are a single-school district, our staff work closely together and know our students and families well.
Culver has a strong sense of community and a supportive, team-based culture. Our special education teachers collaborate daily with classroom teachers, related service providers, and administrators, and they are never expected to solve challenges on their own. We believe students do best when the adults around them feel supported, respected, and able to work together.

Starting salary $59,000–$74,000+ depending on education and experience, along with a strong benefits package including health, dental, and participation in the Teachers' Retirement System.
At Culver, our special education teachers are supported by a collaborative team of administrators, classroom teachers, and related service providers who work together to help students succeed. Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Programs and Student Services, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Essential Functions- Conduct assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
- Assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students.
- Assist students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs.
- Serve as a ready resource to students and parents to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serve as liaison between home and school.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
