Overview
WE ARE HIRING! Join our team and become our new full-time CIVIL ENGINEER I, responsible for providing technical support and professional engineering services for public infrastructure projects throughout the Village of Niles.
Some info about the position…
- Participates in and supports the planning, design, construction oversight, and inspection of public infrastructure projects, including streets, sewers, water systems, and facilities.
- Reviews, analyzes, and verifies engineering plans and specifications for compliance with applicable standards and codes.
- Prepares engineering drawings and designs using CAD software (Micro Station/Intergraph).
- Conducts on-site construction inspections, observations, and field coordination activities.
- Performs basic field surveying tasks and utilizes GIS to support the maintenance of the Village’s utility and infrastructure databases.
- Provides technical information and coordination support to contractors, property owners, and residents.

- 2023 ASCE Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement ($10-$25MM):

- Have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in municipal public works engineering or private consulting supporting public infrastructure design and construction.
- Have an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Have the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois within four (4) years of employment.
- Be able to exert over 100 pounds occasionally and over 50 pounds frequently, with mechanical assistance as appropriate.
- Have a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.
- Hiring range for this position is $79,223 – $110,912 (starting salary is typically no higher than the midpoint and is dependent upon qualifications)
- Typical hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with evening and weekend hours as needed
