Overview

At Shure, innovation is driven by passionate engineers who shape the future of professional audio. We are seeking a Staff Managing Engineer – FPGA & Wireless Systems to lead the FPGA engineering team and Wireless Lab operations, playing a pivotal role in the development of world‑class wireless audio products used by artists, venues, and creators around the globe. This highly visible leadership role combines technical depth, people management, and system‑level influence.

You will guide and mentor a team of talented engineers while remaining hands‑on—architecting, designing, and validating FPGA‑based solutions that power Shure’s next generation of wireless technologies. In parallel, you will lead our Wireless Lab team, coordinating validation, Dev Ops, and lab priorities to ensure robust, high‑quality product releases. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of engineering excellence and team leadership, enjoys setting technical vision, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and turning complex challenges into elegant solutions.

If you’re motivated by solving real‑world problems, developing people, and seeing your work come to life in globally respected products, this role offers a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact within Shure’s renowned Product Development organization. This position will be hybrid based out of our Niles, IL HQ.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of FPGA engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead wireless lab team, coordinating wireless lab activities (validation, Dev Ops) and priorities.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Hardware, Software, and Acoustic teams, to define product requirements, technical specifications, and project deliverables.
  • Drive the design and development of FPGA‑based systems and circuits, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices, and awareness of industry trends and vendor offerings.
  • Plan and allocate resources effectively to achieve project milestones while maintaining high‑quality standards and meeting deadlines.
  • Develop and implement designs, including verification and validation.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide feedback to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in FPGA or ASIC design and development, preferably within the audio or consumer electronics industry.
  • Proven experience managing and leading a team of engineers, preferably in FPGA design and circuit design roles.
  • Strong expertise in FPGA development using VHDL or Verilog, including synthesis, place and route, and static timing analysis.
  • Solid knowledge of digital signal processing techniques, embedded systems, and digital/analog circuit design principles.
  • Experience with FPGA design tools such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado or Altera Quartus, and familiarity with FPGA development kits.
  • Proficiency in using simulation and verification tools such as Model Sim or Mentor Graphics Questa to validate designs.
  • Experience with Linux, networking and Dev Ops tools (Jenkins, Bitbucket, etc.).
  • Familiarity with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems, propose effective solutions, and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and present technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, prioritizing tasks, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Practical experience with Python.
  • Experience in wireless, audio or related fields is a plus.
