We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to support the cleanliness and upkeep of two buildings that include laboratory and office environments. This role is primarily responsible for daily custodial and janitorial duties such as floor care, trash removal, dusting, glass cleaning, and overall building cleanliness. The ideal candidate will also have basic knowledge of maintenance tasks to assist with minor repairs and facilities support as needed.

This position plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant environment across labs, offices, lobbies, vestibules, restrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces. Occasional physical tasks and seasonal responsibilities (such as snow removal) are also part of the role.

• Perform routine custodial cleaning of laboratory and office spaces, including:
  • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and floor scrubbing
  • Emptying and replacing garbage and recycling
  • Dusting surfaces and cleaning glass, doors, and fixtures
  • Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, kitchens, offices, common areas, and non-hazardous lab areas
• Maintain cleanliness in lobbies, vestibules, entrances, and outdoor areas
• Follow lab-specific cleaning protocols and safety procedures as required
• Inspect, clean, and properly maintain custodial equipment (floor scrubbers, vacuums, snow blowers, etc.)
• Restock all restroom, kitchen, and supply areas
• Assist with post-meeting and event cleanup
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, including:
  • Replacing light bulbs
  • Addressing basic plumbing issues
  • Wall patching and minor painting
  • Ensuring equipment and fixtures are functioning properly
• Support facilities operations by:
  • Providing coverage during colleague absences
  • Collaborating with teams on facilities-related needs
  • Keeping warehouse and mechanical rooms clean, organized, and safe
• Assist with physically demanding tasks as needed, including moving heavy items and seasonal snow removal
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of cleaning chemicals
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and promptly report issues or concerns
• Adhere to assigned cleaning schedules and complete tasks efficiently and thoroughly

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of custodial, janitorial, or facilities experience, preferably in office or laboratory environments
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Ability to observe details at close range
• Regularly walking throughout labs, offices, warehouse, and common spaces
• Frequent bending, kneeling, standing, and reaching
• Ability to move, lift, or push objects 50 lbs or more
• Occasional work at elevated heights
• Frequent operation of equipment such as floor scrubbers and snow blowers
