Position: Machinist 1 (Gear Cutting) -3rd Shift, M-F 10PM- 6:30AM

Position Overview

Machinist 1 – the role reports to the manufacturing supervisor and is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machines in an industrial setting. The position works under close supervision with limited troubleshooting, decision‑making, and problem‑solving responsibilities. There is limited contact with external suppliers or customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate machines with minimal supervision, performing required process checks and inspections per documentation.
  • Document nonconforming material, participate in root cause and corrective action initiatives.
  • Adhere to safety standards, regulations, and operating procedures.
  • Use computer programs to enter part data, log time, locate instructions and blueprints, and download programs.
  • Follow work instructions, set‑up sheets, and method documents to correctly operate machines and inspect parts.
  • Utilize gauging equipment to ensure conformance to engineering specifications throughout the production run.
  • Clean and maintain measuring instruments and testing equipment, inspecting parts for cleanliness.
  • Operate precision inspection equipment and perform first‑piece checks when applicable.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints for proper production task completion and perform routed operations of precision close‑tolerance parts.
  • Complete paperwork while adhering to record‑retention requirements.
  • Apply basic Six Sigma tools and methodology.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of related work experience or a relevant trade school degree.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply inspection techniques and use inspection tools efficiently.
  • Ability to read and use micrometers, functional and cylindrical gauges, comparators, indicators, calibration stickers, and scales.
  • Interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints to determine appropriate activities, tools, and next steps.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including datum structures, material condition tolerances, and orientation tolerances.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming/machining (reading, understanding, and editing basic programs).
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to demonstrate eagerness, enthusiasm, and optimism for work activities.
  • Detail orientation and adherence to work instructions.
Additional Requirements
  • Position requires use of information subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR and EAR, or possess all required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly pay range: $16.49 – $28.60.
  • 10:00pm–6:30am shift (3rd shift).
