Maintenance Technician (1st Shift)
Location: Niles, IL
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 1st Shift (Flexible start time - typically between 7:00 AM-9:00 AM)
Compensation: $33 - $38/hour
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment supporting high-end printing and packaging operations. This is a hands-on role focused on keeping production equipment running efficiently through a combination of preventive maintenance and real-time troubleshooting. The ideal candidate is mechanically strong, self-directed, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities shift throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on production equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and minor electrical issues
- Support production by minimizing downtime and responding quickly to issues
- Maintain and repair presses, converting equipment, conveyors, and packaging machinery
- Perform fabrication work, including welding and basic machining repairs
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and CMMS records
- Assist with installation and setup of new equipment
- Handle a wide range of day-to-day repairs such as fixing broken bolts, hoses, and material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks)
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude (approximately 80% mechanical focus)
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment independently
- Experience with welding (MIG/TIG) and machining (lathe, mill)
- Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, and general industrial systems
- Experience in printing, packaging, or paper manufacturing environments
- Technical certifications
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Proactive and able to stay productive even when equipment is down
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical troubleshooting ability
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Team-oriented with a willingness to support production needs
- Manufacturing/production setting across two facilities
- Work involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, and varying temperatures
- Use of hand and power tools required
- Stable organization with very low turnover
- Variety in daily work-no repetitive routine
- Strong preventive maintenance culture
