PART-TIME 15-20 HOURS/WEEK, MAXIMUM 999 IN A FISCAL YEAR Weekday, Holiday, and Weekend Hours May Be Required Must be available to start each shift by 4 PM Hours Vary DEFINITION: Under limited supervision, performs a variety of manual labor tasks in the Community Operations Department.

Drives a City vehicle; assists in the maintenance of fleet vehicle and golf carts; and performs a variety of general duties to assist various departments as requested. Opening and closing of parks, positing of signs for rentals, stocking of parks restrooms, general cleaning and labor.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledges, skills and other characteristics. TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : Performs a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled manual tasks;

performs manual labor such as loading and unloading equipment, moving and arranging furniture; lock and/or unlock City buildings and/or restroom facilities; observe and report changes in facility/park conditions to appropriate staff; assists in the maintenance of fleet vehicles and golf carts, including but not limited to washing, fueling, performing minor repairs, documentation of maintenance of fleet vehicles; may maintain basic records of work performed and materials used.

Assists City staff with various requests. May supervise volunteers and/or court workers. Will be required to work weekends, evenings, and/or holidays. Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid California Class C Driver License with a good driver record (provide copy of record).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds without assistance for the purpose of lifting equipment, such as tables, chairs, and/or sound system. Knowledge of safe work practices. Ability to safely drive a city vehicle. Ability to perform a variety of heavy, physical labor involving strength, dexterity and coordination. Ability to communicate and work with City staff and the public using exceptional customer service skills.

Perform assigned tasks independently and accurately; ability to be organized and manage time/projects. Maintain basic records of work performed and materials used. Read, write and follow instructions at the level required for successful job performance. Maintain good public relations with people contacted during work assignment. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Ability to bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds for the purpose of lifting and moving equipment. Work is performed outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions such as parks, outdoor recreation and special event environments. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, moving traffic, construction sites, hazardous chemicals, toxic fumes, irate citizens, infectious diseases, and air and water borne pathogens.

EMERGENCY SERVICES: All City employees are required to perform assigned Emergency Service duties in the event of an emergency or disaster. Employee must complete required FEMA courses within six months of employment. SELECTION PROCESS : Only those candidates who have the best combination of qualifications in relation to the requirements and duties of the position will continue in the selection process.

Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to participate in the process. Final appointments may be be subject to a selection interview with the Department Director or designee and the remaining conditional steps in the hiring process.
