The Custodian position provides daily custodial operations to ensure proper care and maintenance of school facilities, equipment and grounds. The primary responsibility is to maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment for all building users. This includes daily cleaning of building areas, completion of assigned work orders, building and equipment maintenance and securing of building daily.
In addition to daily tasks, this position handles after hours building rentals and events, grounds maintenance and snow and ice removal. Schedule is Monday through Friday 2:30pm to 10:30pm;
Summer shift hours may change as the custodial team completes summer cleaning projects prior to the start of the school year.
- High School diploma, GED or Trade School diploma
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer knowledge and skills;
Email, work order system, Word, Excel - Demonstrated knowledge of custodial practices, equipment and cleaning methods
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, administrators and community members
- Valid driver’s license or access to reliable transportation
- Physical ability to perform custodial tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders and operating cleaning and grounds equipment
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- OSHA Certification
- Advanced computer knowledge and skills;

Shared Director of Facilities
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesCleaning of School Building Areas, including classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, office spaces, common areas, gymnasium, cafeteria and library.
- Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping of classroom floors and hallways
- Cleaning and sanitizing of classroom touch surfaces
- Cleaning and sanitizing of bathroom fixtures, walls, partitions and floors
- Restocking of all bathroom dispensers
- Cleaning of glass surfaces in assigned areas
- Dusting of furniture, window sills and light fixtures as needed
- Empty and disposal of all trash and recycling in assigned areas
- Ability to perform special cleaning assignments, including: striping and waxing of floors, shampooing and extraction of carpets
- Keeps building and premises neat, clean, clear at all times
- Maintain an organized and fully stocked supply room; report any inventory needs to the Head Custodian or Director
- Performs landscaping duties such as weeding, edging, tree trimming, and mulching to maintain the grounds in a safe and attractive condition
- Moves furniture and/or equipment as required and directed by Head Custodian or Director
- Assists with maintenance of mechanical and HVAC equipment, and promptly reports concerns or malfunctions to the Head Custodian and Director
- Performs minor building repairs, such as painting and minor carpentry repair
- Closes and secures building throughout shift
- Turns off all classroom lighting as rooms are cleaned
- Ensures all doors and windows are secure and locked
- Check exit doors to ensure that doors are locked and panic hardware is functional
- Enable the security alarms and promptly report building security issues to the Director
- Participates in regular training as required
- Promptly reports any damage to school property to the Head Custodian and Director
- On-call availability for emergency maintenance issues such as snow and ice removal
- Performs other tasks as required by Head Custodian, Director or Building Principal
- Specific knowledge of methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices and procedures
- Knowledge of proper use of custodial and grounds equipment (floor machines, carpet extractors, vacuums, pressure washer, snow blowers, etc.)
- Written and verbal communication in English; ability to perform multi-step actions after written or verbal instructions
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with custodial staff and school staff
- Stand for prolonged periods; frequently move heavy objects; operate power equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, burnishers, snow blowers and landscaping tools
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and weather conditions
- Knowledge of precautions used to avoid exposure to cleaning and stripping compounds and fumes; and noise exposure from power equipment
- Employee will frequently lift 50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 70 lbs.
- Perform ground maintenance outdoors in inclement weather, including snow removal
- May require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and emergency call-backs
$22.47/hour (Step
