This position will be located onsite in Norfolk, Virginia.

The incumbent will perform a full range of janitorial duties related to the care, maintenance, and cleaning of all assigned buildings and facilities. Keeps supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.

• Clean and sanitize restroom facilities and related fixtures including drinking fountains, refrigerated water coolers, custodial mop sinks, restroom sinks, urinals, showers, and toilets.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip, and polish floors.
• Replenish supplies in restrooms, facilities, etc.
• Ensure all dusting (both high and low) areas are maintained as necessary; polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.
• Wash windows (both interior and exterior), mirrors, and walls; window washing may require use of ladders.
• Empty, clean, and sanitize waste receptacles.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment for cleaning and replacement when completed.
• Clean window blinds (Venetian or vertical) as required.
• Identify and report maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.
• Perform specialized projects such as restoration programs on floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, and other items.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• At least 1 year of janitorial and floor care experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Mature judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident alien.
• Valid state driver’s license with an excellent driving record (must provide current driving record).
• Must be able to pass background investigation.

• Work is performed mostly indoors, with some outdoor work required when directed. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
• Work hours are subject to change, with overtime, nights, weekends and/or holiday work as needed.
• Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors and elevated noise levels.
• Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard, and soft‑carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, and elevated levels using ladders.
• While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
