Janitorial Utility Technician

Keeps premises of commercial or institutional buildings in clean, safe and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

• Perform general cleaning, sweeping and mopping floors around machines, removing debris, cleaning windows and bathrooms, emptying trash and removing cardboard, cleaning storage areas outside the plant, using a pressure washer to clean concrete areas outside. Sweeping and cleaning storm drains and ditches, stairwells, outside utility areas, and elevator floors. Collect outside receptacle trash using designated routes. Transport trash and waste to disposal area.
  
  Provide assistance with any outside cleaning, which may include sweeping sidewalks and picking up trash.
• Assist in project cleaning, which includes lifting and removing furniture from rooms, setting up and breaking down event set‑ups; moving student chairs/desks, file cabinets, rugs, and all other boxes in classrooms. Includes scrubbing floors, pulling trash, dusting, vacuuming, and restroom cleaning or other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• Operate various types of equipment and machinery, including wet vacuums, hand trucks, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, and possibly a forklift and/or tugger to empty hoppers and maintain pallet yard; containing and cleaning up spills; monitoring recycle trailer drop‑offs and pick‑ups; cleaning area around waste pre‑crusher and cardboard compactor; removing debris from storm drains, pallet yard, and fence lines;
  
  sweeping and scrubbing plant aisles; cleaning conveyor and trim pits; and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Assist in the completion of the workload in the absence of other service workers.
• Report any malfunctions/maintenance problems to the supervisor; discuss work problems and/or schedule problems with supervisor and/or management; may be required to lock and/or unlock doors; attend training meetings and sessions as directed.

• Manufacturing Plant or Warehouse experience preferred.

Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to talk or hear. Lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Noise level is usually moderate.
