POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Nursery Worker
LOCATION/DEPT: Norridge Citadel Corps
REPORTS TO: Youth Development & Ministries Director
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: RPT
PAY GRADE: 201
PAY RANGE: $16.60 - $20.00
Responsibilities- Provide a safe environment for children ages 0-5 while they are at the Corps.
- Maintain a safe nursery environment; meet children's needs including diapering, toileting, snacks, and access to toys.
- Monitor interaction among the children.
- Maintain open communication with parents of the children.
- Supervise volunteers in the nursery, ensuring they assist with childcare.
- All other duties as assigned.
Under the general supervision of the Youth Development & Ministries Director with limited freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines. This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army, including staff, Officers, parents, and children. In these contacts related to this positions duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
PerformanceMeasurements
This position will be evaluated based on how effectively the outcomes are achieved, as well as timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.
Education / Experience- Formal education/training in child development is preferred.
- Previous experience in childcare preferred.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and self-starting ability.
- Positive attitude and flexibility in changing job situations/priorities.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English with children and parents.
- Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- Keep the Youth Development & Ministries Director and Corps Officers informed on all critical issues related to the area of responsibility.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out responsibilities.
- Light to moderate physical work with the ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
- Regular interaction with and care for children in a childcare environment with moderate to high noise levels.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating respectfully and professionally, supporting the Mission of The Salvation Army.
