BUILDING STANDARDS DIVISION
ENGINEERING / PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs routine custodial and building maintenance tasks in assigned City buildings to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Superintendent of Building Standards.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides general custodial maintenance of assigned City buildings and facilities in compliance with department policies, procedures and standards of cleanliness, quality and safety.
Performs various custodial duties, which include but are not limited to cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, stocking restrooms with supplies, cleaning windows and other glass surfaces, dusting furniture and other surfaces, removing trash, sweeping and mopping floors, scrubbing / polishing floors, vacuuming / spot cleaning / shampooing carpets, vacuuming upholstery, etc.
Performs minor building maintenance duties as necessary, including but not limited to changing light bulbs, painting various structures, unclogging restroom fixtures, etc.
Assists in preparing rooms / facilities for meetings and special events.
Assists in moving furniture, supplies, etc., as requested.
Maintains assigned equipment; initiates repair work as needed.
Requests necessary tools, materials and supplies; assists in maintaining inventory.
Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints from City employees and the public.
Prepares daily maintenance logs as required.
Operates a vehicle, vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, carpet shampooer, etc.; uses custodial supplies, maintenance supplies, hand tools, painter’s supplies, etc.
Attends training, meetings, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Orders and picks up supplies.
Maintains neat and orderly storage areas.
Opens and secures buildings at appropriate times.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduation and a minimum two years of experience in custodial and general building maintenance work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

Physical Requirements
:
Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
