Position Summary: The Housekeeper will perform physically demanding housekeeping duties in large academic, administrative, and athletic buildings on the main Cullowhee campus. Duties include cleaning, disinfecting, operating heavy cleaning equipment, handling trash and recyclables, dusting, changing light bulbs, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and maintaining various facilities such as auditoriums, classrooms, laboratories, offices, restrooms, locker rooms, stairways, and athletics areas. The role requires reliable, dependable performance and adherence to safety guidelines.

Shift

Hours:

4:00 pm – 12:30 am, Monday through Friday with weekend work as needed. Shift hours and schedule are flexible and may change to meet campus demands.

• Clean and disinfect all assigned areas, including auditoriums, classrooms, laboratories, offices, and athletic facilities.
• Operate heavy cleaning equipment and use cleaning chemicals safely and effectively.
• Remove trash and recyclables, and maintain supply deliveries.
• Change light bulbs, clear dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and perform general housekeeping tasks.
• Unlock and lock buildings, and provide coverage in other assignments as required.
• Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules and equipment maintenance.

• Physically capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds and using 6‑ft ladders.
• Able to work during a variety of weather conditions; mandatory work during adverse/severe weather.
• Understand and follow oral instructions and written labels, directions, and cleaning protocols.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships; work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Experience with commercial floor maintenance and large‑building cleaning practices is an asset.
• Hold a valid North Carolina driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Equivalency of education or directly related experience with some knowledge of cleaning procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform medium to heavy physical work.
• Experience in a housekeeping or commercial cleaning role is preferred.

Annual salary range: $33,540 – $47,847 with a 10% shift premium. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plan contributions; optional disability plans; tuition waivers; group exercise classes; and paid parental, holiday, and community service leave.
