Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
Location: Mount Olive
Facilities IMTs will work individually or as a member of a team, performing a wide variety of skilled and unskilled landscaping and grounds maintenance functions, and semi‑skilled preventive maintenance and repair work while ensuring the facilities and grounds are maintained at the highest level of safety, cleanliness, and operability.
Key Responsibilities- Perform general and skilled landscaping.
- Perform general and skilled janitorial functions.
- Perform general and skilled construction trade functions.
- Coordinate general maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.
- Paint, remodel, and refurbish areas as needed.
- Remove and properly dispose of all recyclable materials.
- Change light bulbs, interior and exterior, as needed.
- Maintain exterior property, including snow removal and ice melt to prevent slips.
- Make repairs and alterations to building interior and exterior; perform general day‑to‑day maintenance tasks, inspections, repairs, and alterations to buildings, grounds, and shop equipment.
- Ensure facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition; assemble, repair, maintain, and move furniture and related fixtures.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to activities.
- Troubleshoot and repair various pieces of equipment using diagnostic skills and tools (ladder logic, voltmeters, etc.).
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
- Act in accordance with Butterball’s core values, working both independently and as part of a team.
- Adhere to company policies, including safety and food safety regulations.
- Accurately track work assignments, account for parts, and complete required paperwork.
- Perform all duties assigned by management.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Two years of previous experience in at least one maintenance discipline.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Certificate or diploma in Industrial Maintenance or a related area strongly preferred.
- Follow diagrams, operation manuals, manufacturing instructions, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
- Work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
- Read and understand written instructions.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Weld equipment and parts using MIG, TIG, and stick methods.
- Perform mill/lathe work as needed.
- Perform plumbing work as needed.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Stand, walk, use hand and finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, and climb.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work in seasonal outdoor conditions.
- Work in dusty environments.
- Use chemical fumes and pungent odors.
- Work across the entire plant complex, including non‑refrigerated and refrigerated areas, with temperatures ranging from
-20°F to 90°F+. - Wear required PPE: steel‑toe shoes, safety glasses, hardhat, safety vest, gloves, and hearing protection.
- Noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 dBA and require hearing protection.
- May work with raw and/or cooked meat and animal byproducts from the turkey production process.
