Position: Scrub Team (2nd shift) - #003090
Location: Cullowhee

Job Summary

Primary location: main Cullowhee campus.

Primary purpose: provide housekeeping floor maintenance for university academic and administrative floor space, including cleaning, stripping, waxing, buffing, carpet cleaning, etc. Perform physically demanding work (lifting, moving heavy equipment, standing long periods). Provide housekeeping cleaning/disinfecting services as needed, respond to emergency and after‑hours calls, perform building unlock/locking service on Saturdays, Sundays, and/or as needed.

Shift: 4:00 pm to 12:30 am, Monday through Friday with flexible schedule, including work on Saturdays and Sundays as required. Employer may adjust shift and weekend/holiday work. Must be able to work during adverse and severe weather conditions.

Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Perform housekeeping and floor maintenance duties, including cleaning, stripping, waxing, buffing, carpet cleaning, and disinfection of designated areas.

• Respond to emergency calls and after‑hours calls as needed.

• Operate and handle heavy commercial housekeeping equipment (floor scrapers, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, pressure washers, etc.).

• Maintain working equipment, safety procedures, and cleaning materials.

• Follow oral instructions, read labels, and understand cleaning and equipment instructions.

• Maintain reliable transportation and be available during varied weather conditions.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Reliable, dependable; physically capable of lifting a minimum of 100 pounds, using 6–12 ft ladders, standing long periods, and working in heavy commercial settings.
  • Skilled in the use of floor maintenance equipment, housekeeping duties and cleaning agents, with knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, and equipment.
  • Operate, move and handle commercial housekeeping equipment, including heavy floor maintenance equipment, water vacuums, carpet extractors, floor scrubbers/buffers, vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, pressure washers, auto‑scrubbers, etc.
  • Reliable transportation; able to report to work during rain, snow, ice, and other adverse weather conditions.
  • Understand and follow oral instructions and written instructions or labels regarding work assignments, cleaning, equipment and other work‑related matters.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with others; work independently or on a team, with or without close supervision and communicate effectively with various groups, co‑workers and customers.
  • Hold a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
Minimum Qualifications

• Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and ability to follow instructions and perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Job Details

Position Type:
Permanent Full‑Time, 40 hours per week.

Anticipated Salary: $37,228 /year + benefits + 10 % shift premium.

Salary Band Range: $33,540 – $47,847.
