- Community Health Hub (16,000 sq ft facility)
The Vecinos Community Health Hub opened in May 2024 — a 16,000 square foot facility housing a clinic, lab, pharmacy, food bank, and administrative operations. It's a beautiful space and a genuine community asset. It's also a lot of building to keep up.
As a nonprofit operating entirely on grant funding, we don't have the luxury of an in-house maintenance crew. A volunteer with a trades or general handyperson background can make an enormous difference in how we maintain and present this space — catching small issues before they become big ones, handling minor repairs that would otherwise wait weeks for a vendor, and being a second set of eyes during facility walkthroughs.
WhatYou Would Actually Be Doing Routine Facility Support
- Assist with minor indoor repairs: light fixture replacements, hardware adjustments, door and cabinet issues
- Help with furniture assembly, reconfiguration, and moving tasks
- Perform regular walkthroughs to identify and document maintenance needs
- Assist with supply stocking and organization in utility and storage areas
- Assist with OSHA and safety compliance walkthroughs and documentation
- Help prepare for facility inspections by checking signage, egress, and safety equipment
- Support ADA accessibility checks and report potential issues
- Support larger facilities projects as directed (painting, installation, seasonal prep)
- Assist with vendor coordination - being on-site during service calls when needed
- Help maintain organized mechanical and utility spaces
- Background in a skilled trade, general contracting, property maintenance, or facilities management
- Comfortable working in an active, occupied healthcare environment — patients and staff are present
- Attentive to safety protocols and able to follow infection control guidelines
- Observant, organized, and good at communicating what they find
- Retired professionals especially welcome — your experience is exactly what we need
- Able to pass Vecinos' standard volunteer screening and background check
- Meaningful work in a community health facility that serves your neighbors
- Flexible schedule built around your availability
- Genuine partnership with leadership — your knowledge will be respected and used
- The satisfaction of keeping a mission-driven facility running well
