Location: Pittsboro Elementary School (PES)
Reports To: Building Principal
Position Summary:Pittsboro Elementary School is seeking a dependable and hardworking full-time custodian to join our team. The custodian plays an essential role in providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position includes daily cleaning, minor maintenance, and ensuring the building and grounds are well-kept.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces
- Maintain restrooms in a clean and sanitary condition
- Empty trash and recycling containers daily
- Assist with cafeteria cleanup, gym setup, and other school events as needed
- Perform minor maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, etc.) and report larger repairs to maintenance staff
- Ensure building security by locking/unlocking doors and monitoring building access as assigned
- Assist with snow/ice removal, lawn care, and general outdoor upkeep
- Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment in proper working order
- Support safe practices and follow all district policies and procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous custodial or maintenance experience helpful but not required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Commitment to creating a safe, healthy, and positive school environment
- Full-time, year-round position (40 hours per week)
- Evening shift preferred, but schedule may vary
- Pay based on experience and district scale
