Salary: $15.75 to $17.76 Per Hour

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and other school system facilities. Works include sweeping, mopping, vacuum cleaning floors; washing walls, woodwork and fixtures; policing buildings to empty trash and pick up debris. Reports to the school principal or assigned supervisor.

Also drives the bus safely to destination and return; follows school district procedures for driving assigned bus routes; and monitors students' behavior while riding.

• Performs minor or routine maintenance on appliances and equipment, as abilities allow.
• Sweeps, mops, vacuums, shampoos, strips, waxes and buffs floor surfaces.
• Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies, hand soap, hand sanitizer as necessary.
• Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
• Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
• Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper containers.
• Inspects heating system and patrols buildings to inspect for safety or maintenance problems.
• Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de‑icing compounds to walkways and driveways.
• Disinfects high touched and widespread areas.

• Opens and/or secures buildings at start and end of work day; turns on and off lights at start and end of day; and adjusts heating or air conditioning as appropriate.
• Arranges furniture for meetings or other events.
• Lifts and/or moves furniture, equipment and supplies.
• Works at special school events as required.
• Performs other related functions as directed by the supervisor.

• Drives bus safely to destination and return, conforms to traffic rules and regulations.
• Performs vehicle pre‑checks, records and reports malfunctions; follows school district regulations for handling vehicle breakdowns and accident incidents; keeps the bus clean.
• Picks up and drops off students at designated times and bus stops; ensures students depart the bus at their usual stops; ensures all students leave the bus at both ends of the route.
• Monitors students' behavior while riding on the bus; takes suitable action to resolve incidents and reports inappropriate student behavior to school authorities as soon as possible.
• Concentrates on safety of others, accountable for safe transportation of students.

• Graduation from high school.

• Two years of experience in custodial work, or a combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.

• 5 years of responsible driving experience.
• Completion of the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Bus Driver Training Course.
• Must be able to pass the required DOT Physical examination and have a DOT Drug Screen with negative results.
• Must be eligible to hold a Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement.

• Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, buffers, brooms, mops, small hand tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demands are for Medium to Heavy Work.
