Custodian

Under the direction of the Manager of Custodial Services, the Custodian I performs routine cleaning and custodial duties to maintain assigned campus areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.

• Maintain any and all buildings and assignments as assigned by the Manager of Custodial Services either directly or through a Lead Custodian.
• Preform duties to include, but not limited to the following:
  • Clean, Mop, dust, vacuum, and in general maintain the cleanliness level of an assigned area.
  • Clean lavatories, toilets, fountains, glass, mirrors, etc. Replace paper towels, tissue, soap, body soap, and trash liners as appropriate.
  • Clean vents, fixtures, and doors; polish furniture, wood surfaces, railing, windowsills, and other surfaces.
  • Maintain custodial supplies, equipment, and closets in a neat and organized manner and in working order.
  • Empty and clean wastepaper receptacles inside and outside entries.
  • Police for trash and debris outside around assigned buildings daily.
  • Turn lights off or on and secure the building as necessary.
  • Perform special projects such as cleaning windows, hardscape, mold remediation, and care of floors and walls.
• Safeguard keys and University property.
  ADDITIONAL DUTIES
• Move heavy furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
• Participate in Safety training program.
• Perform Other duties as assigned.
• Inspect and maintain equipment used and determine needs for repairs before and after use.
• Observe and report to Manager of Custodial Services and/or Lead, any and all defects, deterioration. and wear and tear on the facilities or through work order system.
• Could be directed to assist other departments, with approved training.

• General knowledge of cleaning practices and the use of custodial chemicals, tools, and equipment and supplies.
• Possess the applications of tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
• Possess the characteristics of honesty and dependability.
• Ability to understand and willing comply with the University's safety regulations and safety related programs.
• Ability to exercise flexibility regarding changing priorities.
• Ability to follow and carry out work assignments in a timely manner.
• Ability to work any shift day, night, weekends, and/or holidays. Ability to work independently, without close supervision, and also as a member of a team.
• Ability and willingness to work longer hours and/or weekends when emergencies arise, events, and/or deadlines must be met.
• Ability to read. write, and follow instructions or be able to request Ora' instructions.
• Ability to read and understand product warning labels and directions for use of cleaning supplies and cleaning equipment or be able to request oral instructions.
• Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
• Comply with safety Programs.

• Ability to reach. twist, bend, stoop, stand, kneel. handle, push/pull, and lift.
• Ability to carry up to. 501bs.
• Ability to hear, see, and speak.
• Ability to work in all buildings or out of the doors in all weather conditions.
• Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.

• Educational:
  • High school diploma or GED.
• Experience and job-related skills:
  • 3 years custodial experience

* Possess a valid Texas driver's license in good standing with the Department of Motor Vehicles and record meets standards of the University's insurance carrier.

$15.00 per hour. The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience and may exceed the starting hourly wage.
