Position SummaryThis is a four‑ or five‑month position, responsible for the mixing and loading of wildfire retardant into wildfire air tankers during periods of wildfire activity. The role is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia. The Wildfire Air Tanker Loader Technician conducts all company‑related business in a safe and efficient manner, fully compliant with Perimeter Solutions ESH&S, Work Safe BC, BC Wildfire policies and other applicable regulations.
The Technician is the primary contact between Perimeter Solutions and BC Wildfire Agency personnel and will act in a safe, professional and courteous manner at all times.
- Follow all Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) and use applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Load wildfire aircraft as required, following SWP’s within contracted time frames.
- Interact with aviation crews and government personnel professionally and courteously.
- Handle all activities related to fire retardant, including:
- Retardant concentrate recirculation
- Mixing concentrate during aircraft loading
- Ensuring mixed products meet quality specifications
- Loading Wildfire Air Tankers safely and efficiently
- Off‑loading tanker trailers of liquid concentrate
- Cleaning up spills or leakage
- Other retardant activities as required
- Check and perform minor equipment service to maintain readiness.
- Conduct daily operational inspection of pumps, hoses, fittings, and switches.
- Perform shift checks of water and retardant tank volumes at the beginning of the shift.
- Perform secondary duties such as lawn maintenance, garden/flower bed care, basic building maintenance (paint, minor repairs), base cleanup, debris removal, monitoring remote water systems, light janitorial tasks, garbage removal from staff loading work spaces, occasional dispatch at remote base locations, and assist other tasks/projects after hazard & risk assessment.
- Cooperate with technical representatives, plant production staff, and agency personnel professionally.
- Assist Technical Representative in tanker base setup, shutdowns, and other field projects as required.
- Attend the annual spring loader certification training.
- Submit required documentation (time sheets, base activity reports, driver logbooks, base work log) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Respond to early or late dispatch callouts within 30 minutes.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Clean driver abstract.
- Proficient computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with other personnel.
- Ability to use hand tools, lawn mowers, and garden tools.
- Mechanical background or aptitude (preferred).
- First‑aid certificate (preferred).
- Attendance at the Air Tanker Loader Technician certification each year.
- Compliance with minimum two consecutive days of rest, free of work or standby within a 30‑day period. The company will, where possible, schedule mandatory rest days on scheduled days off; rest days may occur on scheduled workdays as needed. - Crouch / kneel for 10 minutes.
- Carry 27 kg (59.5 lb) with one arm for 50 m.
- Walk 1.6 km in 16 minutes.
- Frequent bending, walking, and other physical activities required to complete tasks.
- Driving time up to 8 hours with breaks.
- Lift 25 kg (50 lb) on a frequent basis.
- Climb stairs or ladders daily to access the top of storage tanks.
- Work outside in the elements.
$24 per hour.
